White Trash Snack Mix (Print Version)

Sweet-and-salty clusters of cereal, pretzels, nuts and candies coated in creamy white chocolate.

# What You'll Need:

→ Base

01 - 3 cups crispy rice cereal squares, such as Rice Chex
02 - 3 cups corn cereal squares, such as Corn Chex
03 - 2 cups small pretzel twists
04 - 2 cups salted peanuts
05 - 2 cups bite-sized cheese crackers, such as Goldfish or Cheez-It

→ Sweets

06 - 2 cups mini chocolate-coated candies, such as M&M's
07 - 2 cups mini marshmallows

→ Coating

08 - 24 ounces white chocolate chips or white candy coating
09 - 2 tablespoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening, optional

# Steps:

01 - Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, toss together crispy rice cereal, corn cereal, pretzels, salted peanuts, cheese crackers, mini chocolate-coated candies, and mini marshmallows until evenly mixed.
03 - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and coconut oil or vegetable shortening if using. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each, until chocolate is melted and smooth.
04 - Pour melted white chocolate over the dry mix. Using a spatula, quickly and gently fold until every piece is evenly coated.
05 - Distribute the coated mixture in a single layer onto the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet. Let cool at room temperature for approximately 20 minutes until set.
06 - Once fully set, break the mix into chunks. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • This is the sort of snack you sneak a handful of every time you pass by the bowl and no one ever seems to mind.
  • You will never run out of ways to customize it—at this point, it's as much about emptying the pantry as tradition.
02 -
  • If the white chocolate seizes or burns, the mix gets gritty—melting slowly is everything.
  • Stirring the coating in right away before it starts to set is the difference between delicious clusters and a sticky mess.
03 -
  • Lay out all your ingredients before melting chocolate—the last thing you want is scrambling during the critical coating window.
  • Stir gently but quickly, so the candy colors don’t bleed and the peanuts don’t get crushed.
