Vibrant red velvet swirled with vanilla for beautiful marbled waffles perfect for special breakfasts.

# What You'll Need:

→ For the Waffle Batter

01 - 2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 2 tbsp granulated sugar
03 - 2 tsp baking powder
04 - 1/2 tsp baking soda
05 - 1/4 tsp salt
06 - 1 3/4 cups buttermilk, room temperature
07 - 2 large eggs
08 - 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
09 - 1 tsp vanilla extract

→ For the Red Velvet Swirl

10 - 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
11 - 1 tbsp red food coloring (liquid or gel)

# Steps:

01 - In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well blended.
02 - In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully incorporated.
03 - Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients just until combined. Take care not to overmix to maintain tender texture.
04 - Divide batter evenly between two bowls. To one bowl, add cocoa powder and red food coloring, stirring until well blended to create the red velvet batter. Keep the remaining batter plain for the vanilla portion.
05 - Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease the plates with oil or nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
06 - For each waffle, alternate spoonfuls of red velvet and vanilla batters onto the center of the hot iron. Use a chopstick or butter knife to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marbled effect.
07 - Close the lid and cook until waffles are golden brown, crisp on the outside, and cooked through, approximately 3–5 minutes per batch depending on your waffle iron.
08 - Serve warm with cream cheese glaze, maple syrup, or fresh fruit. For the glaze, mix 1/4 cup cream cheese, 2 tbsp milk, and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until smooth.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The stunning marbled pattern makes everyone think you spent hours on presentation
  • You get the classic red velvet flavor with a fun twist on traditional waffle texture
02 -
  • Room temperature buttermilk incorporates more easily and prevents melted butter from solidifying
  • Overmixing the batter develops gluten and makes tough, rubbery waffles
  • Swirling too much blends the colors together completely, losing that beautiful marble effect
03 -
  • Gel food coloring creates a more vibrant red without thinning the batter
  • Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking for fluffier waffles
